JOB DESCRIPTIONS:
Our client is urgently looking for the qualified Health and Safety Officer to start working ASAP.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The applicant wishing to apply for this job must meet the following qualifications;
- Must have Grade 12 or equivalent
- Must have National Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (SAMTRAC, NEBOSH or equivalent)
- Must have a minimum of 3 years recent and relevant working experience in a Health and Safety role
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) and Incident Investigation experience
- Must have experience in the mining working environment will be advantageous
- Must have previous experience in gathering, analyzing and reporting on key H&S data/statistics essential

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will have to implement the following duties but not limited to:
- To co-ordinate, support and advise on all aspects with regards to Health and Safety.
- To establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety within the unit and our SLA contracts, are adhered to.
- To monitor compliance regarding OSH Act and G4S Standards
- Compliance and training
- To ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health
- To ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to
- To ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas relating to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training e.g. site Induction and medicals
- To ensure that the Health and Safety Files is completed and compliant by the appointees and responsible stakeholders
- To ensure that the site risk assessments are completed and approved by all responsible stakeholders
- Providing (where needed) and ensuring all employees have received training on the risk assessments and that acknowledgments are signed, stored and available
- To ensure compliance with all contractual SLA health and safety appointments (i.e. first aiders, health and safety representatives, Supervisor appointments, Safety Officer Appointment)
- To keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business
- Admin and Relevant Reporting
- To coordinate the development of health & safety systems of work and procedures.
- To establish a full program of documented health & safety inspections, audits and checks.
- To provide regular reports to the Head of Health and Safety on relevant health and safety activities.
- Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time.
- Health and Safety
- To participate in the design/ development/ review/ implementation and monitoring of the departmental safety plans for each year.
- To participate in safety forums created by the company for example safety meetings and safety talks and ensure acknowledgments are available and on file
- To report all safety incidents to the relevant people
- Investigate, document and present all safety incidents to G4S and the customer.
- Responsible for ensuring that all recommended improvements stemming from incident investigations are implemented
- To distribute safety information as and when required
- To ensure that monthly safety inspections on company equipment (i.e. vehicles, PPE) to ensure compliance with company standards and country regulations
- Giving advice on health and safety, technical, and legal issues
- Ensuring the working environment is free of potential hazards
